When combating Acne whether it be teen or adult Acne, it is so frustrating when you buy tons of products and they advertise for Acne skin but they don't work. Suffering from Acne myself since I was 14 I can honestly say I have done my homework on which are the best ingredients to be looking for in products and I have tried all products, luxury, expensive, highstreet, cheap, everything! What I have learnt is to believe in the active ingredients not the sales pitch!
Those suffering will already know the common recommended ingredients such as Salicylic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid etc. because they are highly praised and advertised, so i'm going to target the ingredients that you may not know and how they can help.
To make browsing easier I have linked all the products directly to the site for you to have a look at.
Glycolic is one Acne busting ingredient we all need in our regime. Not only battling the acne world but it also helps a variety of irritations. The acid helps to unclog pores and helps to get far down into the skin to the deepest blockages of dead skin and sebum loosening all the dirt. This is great for those who have been left with acne scaring as this helps to reduce the appearance of scars.
The Glow to my life. I love Vitamin C. It's amazing properties include fading hyperpigmentation, it helps heal the skin and it helps to fade dark areas giving you a more even complexion.
Vitamin C isn't always named as Vitamin C so check your products ingredients list for: L-ascorbic Acid or Ascorbic Acid. There are different strengths of Vitamin C so please ensure that if you are new to using Vitamin C that you use around 5% so it is gentle enough on your skin. Strengths can go up to 20%. You can always up the strength in time.
I would always recommend to use Vitamin C in a serum form as serums are better absorbed into the skin due to their small molecules. However, you can get ranges of Vitamin C i.e. cleansers, creams, toners etc.
Kaolin Clay you will very likely have already been using this ingredient if you are a face mask addict like me and you never even knew the real benefits! Kaolin Clay is amazing at controlling your skin's oiliness. It helps to remove all the excess sebum from your skin whilst naturally detoxing your skin and exfoliating. How amazing is that for an all-rounder product. It also has amazing soothing properties so it's great to soothe rashes and irritations. PLUS it can also be used as a natural shampoo when in it's purest form.
Kaolin Clay has a Neutral PH so it isn't harsh on your skin, leaving it soft, toned and healthy.
Kaoline Clay is in many products on the market not just face masks, it is also in cleansers, exfolatiors and treatments.
Yes like the one you use on your hair! well...not quite!
Argan Oil is one very underated for the skin and an ingredient we need for our problematic skin. The benefits are incredible! Simply using Argan Oil alone you can help fight acne by promoting cell regeneration, skin elasticity and hydration aswell as fading acne scars. Applying Argan Oil to your skin allows your skin to breathe and regulates the sebum production which we need to have healthy skin.
When using specialised ingredients on the skin it is so important that we use a SPF to protect our skin afterwards especially when using acids and Vitamin C. Your SPF should be at LEAST SPF25-30. You can now get SPF in a lot of beauty products in skincare and makeup. Check your current products as you'd be surprised at how many probably already contain it. It is so important we apply this to avoid any damage.
SPF now comes in serums, gels, creams etc. so it's covers all preferences.
As you can see there are lots of different brands recommended along with lots of different products, some of which you may never have heard of. Lots that are very affordable! Some that are a luxury! Give them a go!
